I am a member of Post Crossing, the internet project which allows people to exchange postcards: you send a postcard and you receive it back from a random postcrosser. After one year I came up with an amazing idea that the back of the postcard might be not less interesting than a picture on it. I thought it would be interesting to ask people to write anything they know about Lithuania or Lithuanians, to collect all these comments on one blog and to creat from them kind of e-puzzle of my native country.

Knowledge is Protection

Very interesting message from Russia, St.Petersburg:

I know about Lithuania that it was a part of USSR and a lot of people spoke Russian here. How situation is now? And I' ve just read that 35% of Lithuanians feel happy. Are you in that group?

So, are you?

It's Tulip Time In Holland

Very beautiful postcard from Holland:

I know nothing about Lithuania, except we call it LITOUWEN and we always loose the European songcontest from them... haha!

''It's Not So Far Away''

Postcard of BOLSHOI THEATRE from Russia:

So, what do I know about Lithuania:
1. I always can't  remember how to write it;
2. It doesn't have similar name in Russian, like Belgium -
we have ''BELGIA'', Lithuania - ''LITVA''.
3. It's not so far away ;)

''Things I Think I Know About Lithuania''

Coca-cola postcard from Germany brought a few words about Lithuania:

It is one of the Baltic states and were colonized by German trademen in the Middle Ages.
Under Soviet rule 1945-1990, the Lithuanian culture was very much oppressed by the
Russians.

Poland vs Lithuania or Poland&Lithuania?

A beautiful letter next to the postcard from Poland:

Poles haven't got clear stereotype of Lithuanians (like drinking Russian or ugly German woman), but we pin some features of you:
1.you hold a grudge against us for stealing Miskiewicz, Moniuszko and Kosciuszko
2.you are frugal, we can rely on you in finances, and you always keep promises
3.we are good friends, because we have common history. Poles like Lithuanians and believe you're good partners drink vodka together ;)
Now we hear from TV your governement isn't good for Poles in Lithuania - they don't accept Polish names of streets, but I remember after Polish Air Force crash in Smolensk your governemet designated 4 national days of mouring. It was very kind.
We have various, long and common history. Our best king Jagiello was Lithuanian. Then we brought Polish-Lithuanian Union and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth later. Jagiello fought with Teutonic Knight and won Battle of Grunwald. I live close to Grunwald - they organize spectacular performance every year.

Three Things

Three things about Lithuania are coming from Germany, Bremen:

- The president of Lithuania is a woman.
- I like the 3 colours of the flag.
- There is a border with Belarus.
